Our five weeks in Costa Rica were incredible! We stayed in Playa Hermosa on the Nicoya Peninsula for the month of March. We spent our days on the beach and in the pool, enjoying our beautiful views of the canopy and distant ocean, and frequent visits from howler monkeys, iguanas, parrots, and multitudes of other birds and butterflies. Of course there was school and work too, but more importantly: adventures!! We took a free diving course and Spanish lessons, surfed and body boarded, and explored the peninsula and the gulf, by land and sea.
After saying goodbye to our new friends and temporary home, we traveled to Monteverde to visit the cloud forest and experience a canopy zip line tour. In the words of Ben, “IT. WAS. EPIC!” Then, we adventured on to Volcán Arenal and La Fortuna. We hiked in the national park on the slopes of the volcano (dormant now, since 2010); drank copious amounts of amazing coffee; jumped off waterfalls and rope swings; saw toucans at the aptly named Villa Tucan, where we stayed, and smiling sloths in the local sloth reserve.
